Well, even though politics wasn’t part of my initial goal for the blog, I thought it would be worthwhile to mention today’s big event. No matter what your political beliefs may be, today’s inauguration of President Obama was a special event. Things have changed very substantially since the first inauguration of President Bush in 2001 in so many ways, and today is a dawning of a new era on several levels. I hope that we can live up to the ideas mentioned in President Obama’s speech, and that America can not only work together to fix the vast array of problems that we have here in the US, but also work with the rest of the world to solve some common problems.
Today’s viewing experience left a bit to be desired, though. After thinking about it for a bit, I decided to listen to NPR’s coverage (courtesy of WFYI, Indianapolis’s affiliate). Radio coverage worked fine for a while, but then I got the itch to try streaming video online. CNN’s coverage seemed to be working well on my machine, especially when compared to the BBC and C-Span coverage. That all got truncated by a email to the entire office asking us to watch it in the training room as to not kill the company’s internet. In there, we watched Hulu’s coverage, which, while a bit jerky on and off (especially during the oath), was still pretty darn good. [It also made me a bit wistful for faster internet at my apartment, but that's another post in and of itself.]
I think today left me with some mental notes and goals of what I need to do in the future. As I come across them, I’ll post about them on here.
